The remarks came in a post on X as PM Modi officially became India’s longest continuously serving Prime Minister, surpassing the record of 4,398 consecutive days in office held by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru after the first general election. As he crossed the 4,399-day mark in office, PM Modi used the occasion to reiterate a message centred on public service, humility and commitment to the welfare of citizens. Sharing a Sanskrit shloka on the occasion, PM Modi highlighted the virtues of selfless service and commitment to public welfare.
“Public service is the greatest measure of good governance. It is only the individual who works tirelessly with humility, dedication, and a sense of duty who earns the trust of the people," the Prime Minister mentioned in his post in Hindi. He further wrote, “One who is devoted by nature, ever intent on the welfare of his subjects. A king with a humble soul indeed attains the highest glory." PM Modi also shared a translation of the Sanskrit verse, stating, “Public service is the biggest test of good governance. Only a person who works continuously with humility, dedication and dutifulness earns public trust." The Sanskrit shloka posted by the Prime Minister read, “Sadanuraktprakritih prajapalantatparh. Vineetatma hi Nripatirbhuyasi Shriyamashnute." The Prime Minister’s message came on a day that marks a significant milestone in India’s political history. On June 10, PM Modi completed 4,399 consecutive days in office, making him the longest continuously serving Prime Minister of the country. The achievement has triggered congratulatory messages from leaders across India and abroad. President Ram Nath Kovind described PM Modi’s 12-year tenure as a “watershed period for India since Independence." According to ANI, Kovind praised the Prime Minister for presenting India as the “mother of democracy" on the global stage and credited his government with overcoming what he described as an inferiority inherited from the colonial era.
