Weather experts have forecast a fresh spell of rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across the national capital and several parts of North India over the coming days. The changing weather pattern is expected to bring down temperatures sharply, ending the intense heatwave conditions that have gripped the region in recent weeks.According to private meteorologist Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather, thunderstorm activity witnessed in recent days is likely to persist.
He said similar weather conditions are expected on Wednesday, with scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds continuing across Delhi and nearby areas.Palawat also noted that pre-monsoon activity is likely to intensify from June 11 onwards, signaling a major shift in weather conditions across North India.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly cloudy sky with possibility of development of thunder and lightning in Delhi today (June 10). An orange alert has been issued for Thursday and IMD's weather bulletin read, "During evening - Very Light to Light Rainfall, Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & gusty winds(40-50kmph), During night - Very Light to Light Rainfall, Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & gusty winds(40-50kmph)." (sic)The weather office has predicted the arrival of a fresh Western Disturbance over the western Himalayan region from June 11. Its impact is expected to trigger widespread rainfall across several northern states, including:DelhiPunjabHaryanaUttar PradeshRajasthanThe wet spell is likely to continue between June 10 and June 14.
Meanwhile, isolated to scattered rainfall is also expected in:Jammu and KashmirHimachal PradeshUttarakhandThe IMD has warned that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squally winds could affect multiple states during June 11 and June 12. Wind speeds may reach 50 to 60 kmph in some areas, increasing the risk of disruptions.Weather officials have also flagged the possibility of isolated hailstorms in:Himachal PradeshJammu and KashmirUttarakhandSimilar weather threats may extend to parts of Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi during the period.One of the biggest changes expected over the next few days is a significant drop in temperatures. The IMD has indicated that daytime temperatures may rise slightly before witnessing a sharp decline from June 12 onwards.
