Among the first to congratulate PM Modi was Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who described the milestone as a reflection of the trust repeatedly placed in him by the people of India and highlighted New Delhi’s support for Sri Lanka during difficult times. Dissanayake said PM Modi’s achievement was a testament to the confidence that citizens of the world’s largest democracy have shown in his leadership over the years. “Your vision of an economically dynamic India has inspired many beyond your borders, including in Sri Lanka," Dissanayake said.
The Sri Lankan leader also expressed gratitude for India’s assistance during periods of economic and political challenges faced by his country. “We are especially grateful for India’s steadfast friendship, and for your personal intervention and support during challenging times for Sri Lanka," he added. Dissanayake noted that India-Sri Lanka ties had reached unprecedented levels during PM Modi’s tenure, citing mutual trust, geographic proximity, deep civilisational connections and a shared commitment to improving the lives of people in both countries. He further said that winning repeated mandates in a country as vast and diverse as India underscored Modi’s governance abilities and his capacity to deliver tangible improvements for citizens. “India has strengthened its position as one of the world’s leading economies and has emerged as an increasingly influential voice in regional and global affairs," Dissanayake said. The praise was echoed by leaders from other parts of the world.
