Israeli authorities have extended the detention of Palestinian political analyst Abid Abou shhadeh until Sunday, following his arrest during a raid on his home in Jaffa. Adalah, the Palestinian legal rights organisation, says the allegations against him are baseless and that his detention is part of an effort to silence Palestinian journalists and political activists.
Its founder and director, Hassan Jabarin, says the case is linked to attempts to delegitimise the votes of Palestinian citizens of Israel following the recent elections. Jabarin also argues that the election results have exposed deeper inequalities in Israel's political system, with Palestinian parties and voters continuing to face exclusion despite participating in elections.
