The nomination of the Congress candidate for the Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sabha elections was rejected by the returning officer. The rejection stems from allegations by the BJP regarding an undisclosed criminal case in the election affidavit, which the Congress refutes as merely a defamation notice. Following the rejection, senior Congress leaders staged a protest outside the Election Commission headquarters in the national capital, demanding an audience.
The premises were barricaded by police and paramilitary forces. The Congress accuses the BJP of attempting to steal the election and poach legislators, leading to a canceled plan to move their legislators to a resort in Karnataka. The Election Commission is scheduled to meet the Congress delegation the following day. Meanwhile, an independent candidate supported by the BJP in Jharkhand was granted additional time to rectify a procedural error, prompting questions regarding the neutrality of the election watchdog.
