Three individuals, including a Nepali couple, have been arrested on Tuesday (June 9) in connection with a major house theft at Hill Ridge Villas, Gachibowli, in which gold and silver ornaments were stolen. The accused, identified as Kamal Shashi, his wife Vimal Shahi, and Kalpana, were arrested at Udampur in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh with the assistance of local police and will be brought to Hyderabad on transit warrant. The case came to light after a complaint was lodged on June 7 by the elderly residents of the villa, who initially reported the theft of a gold chain from a small idol in the house.
A case was registered and investigation was taken up immediately. However, on the following day, the complainant’s son returned home and discovered that the main locker had been accessed using a key kept nearby, and valuables, including approximately 7–8 kg of gold ornaments and around 1.5 kg of silver ornaments, were missing. Following the complaint, Special Operations Teams, crime units and local police were deployed to work on multiple leads. Several teams were formed and sent to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand, while details and photographs of the suspects were shared with respective State police forces for coordination.
A special team led by the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, also extended assistance in tracking Nepali gang-related cases. Police said the stolen property was recovered intact. During interrogation, the accused confessed to gaining access to the locker using a key kept near it, removing all jewellery, locking it again and taking the key with them before fleeing. The
accused are being produced before a local court and will be brought to Hyderabad on transit warrant for further investigation. Officials have urged citizens to take precautionary measures to prevent such offences and to seek police assistance in verifying the antecedents of domestic workers, particularly those hired from outside the State, to ensure safety and security of households.
