A day after the INDIA bloc meeting, Trinamool Congress national president Mamata Banerjee met senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi at her 10, Janpath residence on Tuesday (June 9, 2026). Banerjee had a long conversation with Ms. Gandhi at the INDIA bloc meeting as well. Sources said that on Tuesday, the two discussed strategies for the future, with the possibility of an alliance for the 2029 General Election also on the cards. Banerjee who reached Delhi for the INDIA bloc meeting, had decided to stay back for another day, to meet Ms. Gandhi.
The Congress shared pictures of the bonhomie between the two leaders. This was the first closed-door meeting between Ms. Banerjee and Ms. Gandhi after the Trinamool’s defeat in the polls, and the alleged attacks on party workers and MP Abhishek Banerjee. Coinciding with her meeting with Ms. Gandhi, the West Bengal CID conducted searches at the Trinamool Congress headquarters and Ms. Banerjee’s residence. The party’s newly appointed joint secretary, Derek O’ Brien, in a post on X, said it was part of political vendetta by the government ruling the Centre and State.
“EXACTLY AT THE SAME TIME as @AITCofficial Chairperson @MamataOfficial was having a meeting today in Delhi with Mrs Sonia Gandhi, CID was forcefully trying to enter the AITC party HQ adjoining residence in Kolkata. First loot vote, now loot files of a political rival. Democracy? Main entrance overloaded with CRPF,” he posted. Political vendetta shamelessly timed! EXACTLY AT THE SAME TIME as @AITCofficial Chairperson @MamataOfficial was having a meeting today in Delhi with Mrs Sonia Gandhi, CID was forcefully trying to enter the AITC party HQ adjoining residence in Kolkata.
