Delay in final seat matrix pushes CET counselling dates
Delay in receiving the final seat matrix of engineering courses has forced the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to postpone the Common Entrance Test (CET) counselling
Delay in receiving the final seat matrix of engineering courses has forced the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to postpone the Common Entrance Test (CET) counselling schedule for the year 2026-27. KEA had planned to commence the seat counselling process for engineering and other professional courses from June 10. However, as there is a delay in receiving the final seat matrix from the Higher Education Department, the counselling schedule has been postponed by three days.
Sources in the Higher Education Department informed that in absence of a Higher Education Minister, the final seat matrix and fee for engineering courses has to be approved by the Chief Minister. โThe Principal Secretary of the department has sought the appointment of the Chief Minister and we are hoping to get approval for the seat matrix soon,โ said an official of the department.
The KEA had recently released the draft seat matrix for engineering courses with 1,59,151 from 227 engineering colleges for the academic year 2026-27. Among these, 75,041 seats come under government quota (KEA), 32,769 COMED-K and 51,294 seats were management quota seats. Earlier, KEA used to conduct NEET and CET counselling simultaneously in the state. But this year, in the wake of the NEET question paper leak, the Union government has taken steps to conduct NEET re-examination on June 21, 2026.
Therefore, without waiting for the NEET results, the State government has decided to conduct CET counselling first this year.
