CBSE schools in Bengaluru reschedule timetable to accommodate teachers on revaluation duty

With a large number of Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) students having applied for revaluation of answer sheets of the recent class 12 exams, many teachers from CBSE schools in Bengaluru too have been deputed for revaluation duty. This has forced schools to revise their timetables and swap classes of teachers on revaluation duty with those available on campus. If necessary, extra classes will be conducted once the teachers return from revaluation duty. A few days ago, CBSE announced the revaluation process after students and parents raised concerns about glitches in onscreen marking, blurry scanned copies, low percentages, incorrect marking, totalling, and other issues.

The revaluation process began on June 8. The principal of a CBSE school in Rajajinagar said, “The board has sent notices to various schools across the city, and as per the requirement, we have sent our teachers for revaluation duty. Our timetables are planned in advance, keeping in focus the vast syllabus and competitive exams that our students want to attempt. However, due to this unexpected duty, some Physics classes have had to be cancelled for a few days and assigned to the teacher teaching Chemistry. Once the Physics teacher returns to the campus, she will make up for the lost hours and swap classes with other subject teachers.” She added, “From the deputation of teachers, we have understood that more students have applied for revaluation in Physics, Mathematics, and Accountancy.” Another principal of a CBSE school in HSR Layout said, “The revaluation process will take ten days to complete, and we have rescheduled the timetable for this period.

Since we have our midterm exams in September, our teachers will conduct extra classes if necessary to cover the syllabus. We usually swap teachers assigned for duty during board exams, but not at the start of the academic year. Now that the academic year has begun, we have our own plans to help our students prepare for the exams.” The principal of a CBSE school in Padmanabhanagar said that the school has decided to conduct extra classes on Sundays for half a day to make up for the lost time. “We saw it coming and had asked our teachers to work on their lesson plans and timetable.

But such instances are a problem for students because a majority of them integrate their class 12 curriculum with preparation for exams like IIT-JEE, NEET, and CET. We hope that the system henceforth is streamlined.”
