A team of students from Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE), Mysuru, has achieved international recognition after their research paper was accepted for presentation at the International Conference on Industrial Digital Twins for Smart Manufacturing (ICIDTSM 2026), organised by Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. The paper, titled ‘A Hybrid Contextual Reasoning Architecture for Fully Offline Conversational AI on Resource-Constrained Edge Devices’, introduces an innovative system named PRISM (Priority Ranked Inference with Sensor Memory).
The research demonstrates how advanced conversational artificial intelligence can operate entirely offline on low-cost hardware such as the Raspberry Pi 4B with just 4 GB RAM, eliminating the need for internet or cloud connectivity, according to a press release. The technology has the potential to make AI solutions more accessible, secure and reliable, particularly in remote regions and connectivity-constrained environments, the release added.
The research was carried out by undergraduate students Karthik M., Kiran A.V., Om M. Doddamani, Kishor A.V., and Jeevan Nullipady Mallya. The project reflects months of learning, experimentation and collaborative research, the college said. The students acknowledged the guidance of A.B. Rajendra and thanked Pooja M.R. and Preema N.S. for their support.
They also expressed gratitude to VVCE principal B. Sadashive Gowda and the college management for fostering a culture of research and innovation.
