Oblivious to the tragedy, Radhe Shyam had been suffering from heart disease and was on ventilator support. Just three days before the tragedy, he had been admitted to Max Hospital in Saket. His son, Vivek, had travelled to Delhi after doctors informed him of his father’s critical condition. “We did not tell him about the tragedy… Vivek was his only child," said a relative, as quoted by the Indian Express. The relative said the family was scheduled to travel to Ahmedabad to attend a wedding next month. “We were all happy. Now everything is gone", the person said. The Fire That Wiped Out A Family Vivek, who had arrived in Delhi last week, had rented rooms at Flourish Stays in Hauz Rani, located in close proximity to the hospital.
He was staying at the hotel with his mother Premlata, wife Tarjani, and their two daughters, Jivisha and Varyia. Along with them, Vivek’s maternal uncle Ashok Goyal and his mother’s sister Kamla and her husband Jimri, were also staying there. On the morning of June 3, a fire swept through the premises of the Bed and Breakfast facility, killing 22 people. Among those killed were nine Indian nationals and 13 foreign citizens. As investigation into the matter progresses, authorities are examining staff violations, safety lapses, and circumstances that allowed the fire to engulf the building.
