Seven people were burnt alive after a blast triggered a massive fire at an alleged illegal firecracker godown in Jaipur on Tuesday. The fire broke out in a house in Jaipur's Talai colony, where firecrackers were reportedly stored. Authorities said the blaze spread rapidly after an explosion, trapping several workers inside. Assistant Commissioner of Police Vinod Sharma confirmed that all seven victims succumbed to burn injuries. Five died during treatment at SMS Hospital, one was declared brought dead, and another died at a private hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Sameer, Aabid, Nasir, Abdul Wahid and Bilal, while one victim remains unidentified. Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal said the house appeared to be functioning as a storage facility for firecrackers, with a nearby manufacturing unit also under scrutiny. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as workers tried to escape the flames, with some collapsing outside the building.
Locals attempted rescue efforts before fire services arrived, pulling out several trapped individuals. Jaipur Collector Sandesh Nayak said the ownership and operational details of the facility are being verified. Additional District Magistrate Yugantar Sharma said multiple fire tenders, police teams and ambulances were rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. Political leaders, including Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot, expressed condolences. Kishanpole MLA Amin Kagzi questioned how such a hazardous operation was allowed to function in a residential area, alleging administrative negligence.
Officials noted this is the second such tragedy in Rajasthan in four months, following a similar blast in February in Bhiwadi that killed seven people at an illegal firecracker factory. Ends
