AP Governor presents over 6,000 degrees, 45 gold medals to VSU students

Andhra Pradesh Governor Abdul Nazeer participated in the 10th, 11th and 12th Joint Convocation of Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) at VPR Convention Centre in Nellore on Tuesday. A total of 6,017 students applied for the convocation. Of them, 4,921 students were from undergraduate programmes, 1,075 were from postgraduate and professional courses, and 21 research scholars were awarded Ph.D. degrees. Additionally, 435 postgraduate students from the Nellore and Kavali University College campuses received their degrees. As many as 45 gold medals were awarded to meritorious students across various disciplines.
The university also conferred honourary doctorates upon three eminent personalities: Padma Bhushan Dr. K.I. Varaprasad Reddy, renowned scientist and founder of Shantha Biotechnics; Beeda Mastan Rao Yadav, Rajya Sabha Member and expert in aquaculture; and Prof. Gobardhan Das, Member of NITI Aayog and molecular scientist. The Governor congratulated the VSU on securing the NAAC ‘A’ Grade Accreditation and receiving a ₹20 crore grant under the PM-USHA scheme. He emphasised the importance of embracing the technological revolution and extending higher education to rural areas through digital platforms.
He urged graduating students to uphold ethical values throughout their lives and contribute to society, particularly toward the upliftment of underprivileged sections. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Varaprasad Reddy said: "Receiving this honour in my native place, Nellore, feels like receiving blessings from my mother." He advised universities to strive for self-sufficiency rather than depending solely on government funding. Stressing the importance of research and innovation for national development, he encouraged students to become entrepreneurs by leveraging modern technologies instead of merely seeking employment, thereby contributing to the growth of indigenous industries.
VSU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Allam Srinivasa Rao presented the University’s progress report and stated that the NAAC ‘A’ Grade accreditation was a testament to the collective efforts of the entire University community. Others who attended the event were AP State Council of Higher Education Chairman K. Madhumurthy, Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, MLC Beeda Ravichandra Yadav, Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy, other public representatives, and former Vice-Chancellors.
