A 28-year-old technician died after allegedly suffering an electric shock while carrying out maintenance work on an 11 kV power line near SBI Junction in Electronics City Phase-I on Saturday. The Electronic City police have registered a case against the contractor, company officials and Bescom personnel for alleged negligence. The deceased, Bandaru Esudasu, a native of Andhra Pradesh, had arrived in Bengaluru about a week ago and was working with a private company engaged in the maintenance of Bescom power infrastructure.
According to the complaint, Esudasu and a co-worker were carrying out maintenance work on a Bescom electric pole near SBI Junction at around 5 p.m. on Saturday, when he allegedly came in contact with a live power line and suffered a severe electric shock. He was reportedly left hanging from the pole before colleagues and local residents rushed to his aid.
Fire and emergency services personnel, along with an ambulance team, brought him down from the pole and shifted him to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. The complaint alleges that adequate safety measures had not been taken before the maintenance work was undertaken. It further alleges negligence on the part of the contracting company, the contractor concerned and Bescom officials responsible for supervising the work.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under section 106 (causing death by a rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide) of BNS for further investigation.
