In a narrow escape, all 50 passengers aboard a Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC) bus survived with minor injuries after the vehicle veered off the road and lay tilted in a roadside pit near Sonna-Sakrahalli on Tuesday morning.
The bus, operating on the Hoovinahadagali-Hosapete route via Morigeri, Sonna and Hagari Bommanahalli, veered off when its steering rod snapped suddenly causing the driver to lose control. The bus swerved off the road and lay tilted in the roadside pit.
According to eyewitnesses, a complete overturn was averted as the natural wall of the pit acted as a barrier, preventing the vehicle from rolling over entirely. The police said that while a few passengers suffered minor abrasions, there were no serious injuries.
All occupants of the bus are safe. Officers from the local police station and officials from the transport corporation rushed to the spot and inspected the scene of the accident.
