Taking serious note of accidents caused by incomplete projects in Shivamogga, the district administration has directed officers and contractors to complete road construction works on national highways, State highways, and other stretches within the next 15 days. Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti chaired a meeting of the Road Safety Committee in Shivamogga on Monday (June 8).
He stressed that repeated accidents and casualties attributed to unfinished highway works were unacceptable. “Officers must expedite these works immediately or risk being held accountable for any mishaps,” he cautioned. The Deputy Commissioner noted that national highway projects on the Shivamogga-Bhadravati route — particularly at Malavagoppa, Machenenahalli industrial area, and Kadadakatte — were causing severe traffic disruptions.
Local representatives and the public have filed multiple complaints regarding delays, he said, adding that no explanations would be tolerated. District Superintendent of Police B. Nikhil informed the meeting that 51 blackspot locations had been identified across the district — 28 on national highways and 14 on Public Works Department-administered roads.
“Most issues at these sites have been addressed. However, signage installation and adequate nighttime lighting remain urgent,” he said. Senior officers of the district administration, including Deputy Conservator of Forests G.R. Ajjaiah, Additional Deputy Commissioner V. Abhishek and others, were present at the meeting.
