Tamil Nadu Minister for Energy Resources and Law C.T.R. Nirmalkumar alleged that some individuals were instigating residents in various parts of Chennai to stage protests against power cuts, even though supply had been restored in those areas, following outages in several parts of the city on Monday night (June 8, 2026) and Tuesday morning (June 9).
He added that additional teams have been deployed to restore power in areas including Perambur and Villivakkam. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Green Power 2026 conference on Tuesday, Mr. Nirmalkumar said: โWe sent three additional teams with 20 employees each to Perambur and Villivakkam on Monday.
We have begun night rounds to restore power supply.โ โIn Perambur, power was restored in 40 minutes. But some people instigated the residents to stage a protest. We have identified those responsible for the disruption of power and have initated action against them based on CCTV footage,โ he alleged.
He further said: โWe request the residents to cooperate with the officials to identify those responsible for the disruption of power supply.โ
