Many parts of Hyderabad witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall on Tuesday (June 9, 2026) evening, marking the first spell of rain in the city since the onset of the southwest monsoon in Telangana on Monday (June 8, 2026). By around 4 p.m., dark clouds had engulfed several parts of the city.
This was followed by heavy winds and rain in areas including Nacharam, Habsiguda, Tarnaka, Secunderabad and Begumpet, catching many commuters off guard. Several people were seen taking shelter under Hyderabad Metro stations as the sudden downpour disrupted evening travel. According to data from
Telangana Development Planning Society, as of 5 p.m., Adikmet recorded a rainfall of 36.3 mm followed by 31.5 mm in Vidya Nagar, 31.3 mm in Amberpet, 27.5 mm in Osmania University, 27.5 mm in Hafeezpet, 21 mm in Nehru Nagar, 18 mm in
Malakpet, 18 mm in Miyapur, 12.5 mm in Uppal and 12 mm in Saroornagar. India Meteorological Department-Hyderabad Centre at 4.25 p.m. has forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds in isolated parts of the city int he next two hours.
