Protests have increased in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, driven by discontent among residents. Following an internet crackdown and ban, a call has been made for a march to Muzaffarabad. Large gatherings and shutdowns are reported in Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, Dadial, and Sudhnoti. In Dadial, protesters pushed back Pakistani rangers, after which security forces reportedly opened fire.
Twenty-seven people are reportedly dead and several others injured. The tension in the region is attributed to the local military establishment selling regional resources to outsiders and companies instead of addressing local grievances.
