More than 300 mandals in Telangana are facing drought conditions and an all-party meeting scheduled in Hyderabad on October 28 will discuss measures to mitigate the potential impact of El Nino and deficient rainfall, Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said.
A delegation of all-party representatives would subsequently visit New Delhi to seek assistance from the Centre to tackle the situation, he said. Prabhakar was speaking to the media in Husnabad of Siddipet district on Monday after inaugurating paddy and cotton procurement centres at the Agricultural Market Yard.
He said 136 procurement centres were being set up across the Husnabad Assembly constituency to ensure smooth and transparent procurement. Farmers were also being sensitised about the possible impact of deficient rainfall and El Nino conditions on water and electricity supplies. The Minister said land acquisition for the canals of the Gouravelli project was progressing briskly.
Steps would be taken to provide Indiramma houses to hut dwellers and families who had lost their houses due to road development works in Chigurumamidi, Sundaragiri and other areas.
