Tim Sherwood Names France's Possible MVP At FIFA World Cup Published By, Last Updated: June 09, 2026, 16:03 IST Tim Sherwood backs Michael Olise to outshine Kylian MbappĂ© for France at the FIFA World Cup after a hat trick vs Northern Ireland. Rapid Read Kylian Mbappe on the bench at Real Madrid (AP) England footballer Tim Sherwood has said that Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise will be Franceâs best performer at the upcoming FIFA World Cup, adding that the way he is playing at the moment, one can be assured of his good performance at the marquee event. Speaking on Sky Sports, Sherwood lauded Kylian MbappĂ© for his exceptional talent but stressed that the forward needs to deliver more for the national team.
Sherwood added that, despite facing criticism from supporters throughout the season, MbappĂ© had enjoyed a successful campaign with Real Madrid, finding the back of the net. But Sherwood backed Olise to outperform MbappĂ©, as well as Ousmane DembĂ©lĂ© and DĂ©sirĂ© DouĂ© of Paris Saint-Germain at the FIFA World Cup. âAt the moment, I would have to say Michael Olise. The way he is playing at the moment, I think you are guaranteed a performance. I think Mbappe is an amazing talent," Sherwood said. âI think he does turn up on the big occasions, but I need to see him turning up more often. He hasnât had a bad season. I mean, he has almost been run out of town there, isnât he, at Madrid and he has had a brilliance," Sherwood added.
Meanwhile, France coach Didier Deschamps challenged Olise to carry his brilliant form into the FIFA World Cup after the forward scored a hat-trick in Franceâs 3-1 warm-up victory over Northern Ireland in Lille on Monday. Olise and MbappĂ© were part of a formidable attacking line-up alongside DouĂ© and DembĂ©lĂ©. The Paris Saint-Germain duo had been rested for the previous friendly loss to Ivory Coast after helping the club win the UEFA Champions League. But it was Olise who stole the show, firing in rebounds on either side of half-time before completing his hat-trick with a brilliant curling effort from outside the box after Patrick Kelly had reduced the deficit.
