Read Full Story Police said the businessman initially complied with the demands and continued making payments out of fear that the content would be made public. Investigators alleged that the extortion later took a more elaborate turn. The accused purportedly claimed that one of them had died by suicide and left behind a note naming the businessman, threatening him with arrest and imprisonment if he refused to continue paying.
According to police, the businessman continued paying money between 2024 and 2026, with the total amount allegedly extorted reaching 2.77 crore. The alleged fraud came to light earlier this month when the businessman reportedly spotted Jithesh, who had allegedly been portrayed as having died by suicide, alive and well in Mangaluru. Suspecting he had been deceived, the businessman approached police, leading to the registration of a case and the subsequent arrests.
Police are investigating the circumstances under which the alleged blackmail operation was carried out and whether others were involved in the scheme. Further investigation is underway. Ends
