Russia says it is ready to resume trilateral peace talks with Ukraine and the United States after November 10, following a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US envoy Steve Witkoff in St Petersburg. Witkoff arrived from Oslo, where he held discussions with Ukrainian representatives, as Washington intensifies pressure on Kyiv to reach an agreement to end the war.
The Kremlin's announcement follows Russia's release of American citizen Stephen Hubbard, who had been imprisoned since 2022, and a US decision to ease some sanctions on Russian diesel. President Donald Trump has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to agree to a settlement, while Washington has reportedly restricted intelligence sharing with Kyiv.
Zelenskyy has welcomed renewed negotiations but insists Ukraine must be directly involved in discussions about its future, particularly territorial issues. Meanwhile, continuing Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure are raising fears of widespread electricity and heating shortages as winter approaches. Al Jazeera's Dmitry Medvedenko reports.
