What began as post-election discontent inside the Trinamool Congress is now taking the shape of a larger political confrontation over leadership, legitimacy and parliamentary strength. Dissident MPs within the TMC have reportedly held a series of meetings and are seeking separate seating arrangements in Parliament. Rebel leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claims that nearly 20 MPs support the move and want to function independently while extending support to the BJP-led NDA. She argues that the group is responding to what it sees as the public's verdict against the party's governance and political direction.
The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC has strongly disputed both the numbers and the narrative, maintaining that the dissidents lack the strength required under anti-defection rules and accusing the BJP of attempting to exploit internal differences for political gain. With questions now being raised over parliamentary recognition, anti-defection provisions and the future of opposition politics in West Bengal, the battle inside the TMC is no longer just about dissent. It is increasingly becoming a contest over the party's future direction and leadership.
