June 5, 2026, marked a significant milestone for Daman as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building during his visit to the Union Territory. The airport project was among a series of development initiatives worth Rs 2,970 crore launched across Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister described the project as a key piece of infrastructure designed to strengthen regional connectivity while supporting tourism and economic activity.
A Rs 97 Crore Investment In Regional Connectivity The new terminal has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 97 crore by the Union Territory administration with support from the Central Government. The facility transforms what was primarily an Indian Coast Guard airfield into a civilian domestic airport, equipped to handle regular passenger operations while maintaining its shared-use arrangement. The airport’s new terminal has been planned to simplify passenger movement and reduce congestion. It features 12 check-in counters to facilitate smoother processing, while the departure lounge can accommodate around 180 passengers. The terminal has been designed to provide an organised and efficient travel experience as commercial operations expand. Alliance Air To Launch Initial Services Commercial connectivity at Daman Namo Airport is being introduced in phases, with Alliance Air becoming the first airline to operate scheduled flights from the facility. The initial route will provide direct connectivity between Daman and Delhi, significantly reducing travel time for passengers who previously relied on a combination of road and rail transport. To further strengthen the Union Territory’s links with major commercial centres. the next phase of expansion is expected to add flights to Mumbai and Ahmedabad. According to the MagicBricks report, other airlines are reviewing the airport’s infrastructure and could commence operations as demand grows.
At present, civilian operations at Daman Namo Airport share the runway with the Indian Coast Guard. The existing infrastructure is designed to handle ATR-72 turboprop aircraft, which are widely used on short and medium-haul domestic routes linking smaller cities with major urban centres. Plans Underway For Larger Commercial Jets The current airport infrastructure is only the first stage of a broader expansion strategy. The Ministry of Defence has approved plans to extend the runway from 1,800 metres to 2,400 metres. Once completed, the upgraded runway will be capable of handling larger single-aisle aircraft, including the Airbus A320 family. The expansion could pave the way for budget carriers such as IndiGo and Akasa Air to introduce services, potentially increasing passenger traffic and improving national connectivity. Airport Expected To Drive Property Demand Beyond aviation, the airport is expected to have a significant impact on Daman’s property market. MagicBricks notes that Daman’s established industrial base, favourable business environment and coastal tourism appeal had already attracted investor interest. Improved air connectivity is now expected to accelerate demand across residential and commercial segments. Property consultants have reportedly observed growing interest from buyers seeking holiday homes as well as corporate investors from cities such as Delhi and Mumbai. The improved transport network is also likely to benefit industrial activity in nearby Daman and Vapi by enabling easier movement of business executives and clients.
Demand Rising For Coastal And Premium Properties According to the report, investor attention is particularly focused on premium residential developments in the Marwad locality and properties near Devka Beach. Market participants anticipate stronger demand for holiday rentals and executive accommodation as tourism and business travel increase following the airport’s operational launch.
