June 5, 2026, marked a significant milestone for Daman as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building during his visit to the Union Territory. The airport project was among a series of development initiatives worth Rs 2,970 crore launched across Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister described the project as a key piece of infrastructure designed to strengthen regional connectivity while supporting tourism and economic activity.
A Rs 97 Crore Investment In Regional Connectivity The new terminal has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 97 crore by the Union Territory administration with support from the Central Government. The facility transforms what was primarily an Indian Coast Guard airfield into a civilian domestic airport, equipped to handle regular passenger operations while maintaining its shared-use arrangement. The airportās new terminal has been planned to simplify passenger movement and reduce congestion. It features 12 check-in counters to facilitate smoother processing, while the departure lounge can accommodate around 180 passengers. The terminal has been designed to provide an organised and efficient travel experience as commercial operations expand. Alliance Air To Launch Initial Services Commercial connectivity at Daman Namo Airport is being introduced in phases, with Alliance Air becoming the first airline to operate scheduled flights from the facility. The initial route will provide direct connectivity between Daman and Delhi, significantly reducing travel time for passengers who previously relied on a combination of road and rail transport. To further strengthen the Union Territoryās links with major commercial centres. the next phase of expansion is expected to add flights to Mumbai and Ahmedabad. According to the MagicBricks report, other airlines are reviewing the airportās infrastructure and could commence operations as demand grows.
