Twisha Sharma (Image Credits: X) Bhopal court on Wednesday directed the police to urgently verify whether any medical institution in Madhya Pradesh has the facility to preserve the body of Twisha Sharma at ultra-low temperatures, after noting that no such facility currently exists in the city. The direction came while the court rejected a plea filed by Twisha Sharma’s parents seeking a second post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi. The court observed that Sharma’s body is presently stored in the mortuary at AIIMS Bhopal at -4°C, while long-term preservation requires storage at nearly -80°C.
Judicial Magistrate First Class Anudita Gupta said in her order that no facility for such low-temperature preservation was available anywhere in Bhopal. No Second Autopsy The court rejected a plea demanding second autopsy by Sharma’s family. The family had raised concerns over alleged lapses in the investigation and claimed the first autopsy conducted in Bhopal may have been influenced due to the accused family’s alleged connections in the city. In its order, the court stated that the first post-mortem was conducted at a “prestigious medical institution" and noted that videography of the procedure had also been carried out. The magistrate said there was nothing on record to suggest any collusion between the accused and the medical team that performed the autopsy.
However, taking note of the preservation issue, the court directed the Station House Officer of Katara Hills police station to immediately gather written information from higher medical institutions across Madhya Pradesh and other metropolitan cities in the state regarding the availability of low-temperature body preservation facilities and submit a report without delay.
