A major political crisis has emerged within the ruling party in West Bengal as a faction of rebel lawmakers plans to align with the Democratic Alliance. The dissident camp claims the support of twenty parliamentarians who have reportedly submitted a letter to the speaker expressing their intent to join the opposition alliance. The rebels attribute their defection to alleged lawlessness, misgovernance, and corruption within the state administration, while keeping the possibility of a complete merger with the opposition party open.
In response, the loyalist camp has dismissed these claims as fabricated, asserting that the opposition's attempts to poach lawmakers have failed and that several members on the alleged list have denied signing any documents. Party loyalists further argue that the rebellion is driven by personal grievances over denied electoral tickets and the removal of key parliamentary positions rather than ideological differences. The ruling party maintains that the departure of a few members does not signify the end of its political presence in the state.
