'Be Careful Or You'll Be Left Alone Against Iran': Trump Claims He Warned Netanyahu If War Escalates Published By, Last Updated: June 08, 2026, 23:31 IST Trump claimed that he had tried to limit the scale of Israel’s response after several countries urged him to pressure Netanyahu. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump. (AFP file) US President Donald Trump on Monday claimed that he had warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a call that Israel could find itself facing Iran alone if its strikes escalated into a full-scale war. The call came after Iran launched missiles at Israel over the ongoing escalation in Lebanon. “I told Bibi, you better be very careful with what you do, because you might soon be left alone against Iran," Trump was quoted as saying, according to Israel’s Channel 12 News.
Trump further told the broadcaster that he had tried to limit the scale of Israel’s response after several countries urged him to pressure Netanyahu, adding that at least five regional countries had contacted him asking him to intervene. “I tried to limit the size of the Israeli response to Iran after 5 countries asked me to pressure Netanyahu," he added. Trump also claimed that Netanyahu had informed him late on Sunday that he had decided to proceed with strikes, while Israeli aircraft were already en route to Iran. The remarks came shortly after Netanyahu’s televised statement in which he said he had told Trump that Israel reserves the right to defend itself against Iran and would respond forcefully to any further attacks. “Israel has a full right to self-defence, and we are exercising it as required.
I say this to you, just as I say it with appreciation and respect in my good conversations with my friend President Trump," Netanyahu said. Halt To Brief Hostilities Israel and Iran both called a halt to their exchanges on Monday following Trump’s public call to stop “shooting," though both sides left the door open for a possible resumption. Trump, who launched the war alongside Israel in February, has been trying to reach a negotiated settlement with Iran, while excluding Israel from those talks. He has repeatedly urged Netanyahu to avoid actions that could derail negotiations, including limiting military operations in Lebanon against the Iran-aligned Hezbollah. Iran, meanwhile, has stressed that it will not agree to any peace deal with Washington unless a ceasefire is also maintained in Lebanon.
