(Reuters/File Image) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed grief over the deadly accident at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and announced financial assistance for the families of those killed and injured in the incident. In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he was saddened by the tragedy and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. “Saddened by the mishap at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones.
Praying that the injured recover at the earliest. The local authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected," PM Modi said. The Prime Minister also announced ex gratia compensation from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the victims. “An e gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. According to preliminary reports, at least 8 workers were killed and several others injured in the accident. Rescue and relief operations were launched immediately, and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Earlier, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also expressed shock over the incident and directed officials to ensure coordinated rescue and relief efforts with the support of all concerned departments.
