Microsoft celebrates 25 years of Xbox with a translucent OG Green design Same performance as the standard Xbox Series X Matching anniversary controller unveiled Designed for collectors and longtime fans Release date and availability A nostalgic nod to Xbox's origins Microsoft has unveiled the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition, a special anniversary console created to celebrate 25 years of the Xbox brand. Announced during Xbox Showcase 2026, the console pays tribute to the original Xbox with a striking translucent OG Green design that evokes memories of the early 2000s. While the hardware inside remains largely identical to the standard Xbox Series X, the anniversary edition is aimed at collectors and long-time fans who have followed the platform since its debut in 2001. Alongside the console, Microsoft also introduced a matching special-edition controller featuring several nostalgic design elements inspired by classic Xbox hardware. The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition marks a major milestone for Microsoft, which launched the original Xbox in November 2001. Over the past quarter-century, the gaming brand has grown from a newcomer in the console market into one of the industry's biggest players, competing directly with Sony and Nintendo while expanding into cloud gaming, subscriptions and PC gaming. The anniversary console serves as a tribute to that journey, combining the modern design of the Xbox Series X with visual cues that reflect the brand's origins. The most noticeable feature of the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition is its translucent OG Green exterior. The colour scheme draws inspiration from the original Xbox and the transparent green aesthetic that became closely associated with the console among fans.Microsoft has also incorporated a green-illuminated Xbox logo on the front of the system, further reinforcing the connection to the original hardware.
The company says the design includes several hidden anniversary details and references that long-time Xbox enthusiasts will be able to discover.Despite its unique appearance, the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition does not introduce any major hardware upgrades. The console retains the same performance capabilities as the standard Xbox Series X, including its powerful custom processor and 1TB SSD storage.Players can expect identical gaming performance, loading speeds and compatibility with existing Xbox Series X titles. The anniversary model is therefore focused on collectability and design rather than enhanced technical specifications.Microsoft also revealed the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition, designed to complement the anniversary console. The controller features a translucent green shell, transparent rear casing and several nods to the original Xbox. Among the most notable details are coloured ABXY buttons inspired by classic Xbox designs and bumper elements that reference the black and white buttons found on the original Duke controller. The controller will be sold separately, allowing fans who do not purchase the console to still own a piece of the anniversary collection.Limited-edition consoles have become an important part of gaming culture, often serving as commemorative products that celebrate major milestones.
