Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian. (Reuters) China on Monday expressed support for stronger cooperation with India and Russia, saying healthy ties among the three countries would contribute to regional and global peace, security and stability. Speaking at a media briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing was ready to maintain communication with both India and Russia to advance cooperation among the three nations. His remarks came in response to comments made by Russian President Vladimir Putin on relations between Moscow, New Delhi and Beijing. “China, Russia and India are all emerging economies. Maintaining sound relations is not only in the respective interests of the three countries but also conducive to regional and global peace, security, stability and prosperity," the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson told the press.

The Russian leader praised both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying they were working to resolve issues of mutual concern, including the border question. Putin stressed that Russia’s relationships with India and China had developed independently and did not come at each other’s expense. He described India-China ties as a complex relationship and said outside interference would not be helpful.
China Calls For ‘Right Strategic Perception’ Lin also said the current situation along the China-India border was generally stable and that communication channels between the two sides remained open. “China and India need to have the right strategic perception that the two countries are cooperation partners, not competition rivals, and are opportunities, not threat, for each other’s development," he said. He added that both countries should view their relationship “from a strategic height and long-term perspective, enhance mutual trust, expand cooperation, properly handle differences, and promote the sound and steady development of China-India relations". On India’s concerns over China’s close ties with Pakistan, Lin reiterated Beijing’s position that differences between India and Pakistan should be resolved through dialogue and consultation. “We support the two sides in properly handling differences through dialogue and consultation and jointly keeping the region peaceful and stable," he noted.
