The Trinamool Congress is facing a vertical split as a senior party leader claims that nearly twenty parliamentarians want to support the Democratic Alliance. Dissident members have expressed dissatisfaction with the party's current leadership and functioning. However, the official party camp has dismissed these claims, asserting that only thirteen parliamentarians are part of the rebel faction.
This political shift faces a legal hurdle, as the rebel camp requires at least nineteen of the party's twenty-eight Lok Sabha members to avoid attracting the anti-defection law. Additionally, some dissident parliamentarians express concern about their political survival and constituency support if they align with the coalition they previously campaigned against.
