The West Bengal Special Task Force has arrested a Trinamool Congress leader wanted in multiple cases registered at the Falta police station. The leader was apprehended near the Indo-Nepal border while attempting to flee. Following the arrest, local residents and BJP workers vandalised and ransacked his office in Falta. The leader had previously withdrawn his candidature before the constituency's re-polling, which was ordered due to allegations of electoral malpractice and voter intimidation.
He went absconding after the election, which saw a BJP victory. Visuals showed the leader being taken from the police station for a medical examination amid charges of creating unrest and inciting violence during the elections.
