(Image: PTI) In a major administrative reshuffle, the Suvendu Adhikari-led government in West Bengal on Monday transferred 179 police officers across the state, including several key positions within the Kolkata Police. The exercise, one of the most extensive since the formation of the BJP government in the state, involved 151 IPS officers and 28 officers from the West Bengal Police Service (WBPS), according to an official notification.
Among the prominent appointments, Rajesh Kumar Yadav and Gaurav Sharma have been assigned to the Special Task Force (STF) as Inspectors General of Police (IGPs), while former Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Murlidhar Sharma has been posted as IGP of the Intelligence Branch, PTI reported. Within Kolkata Police, Kunal Aggarwal has been appointed Additional Commissioner (Crime), and Mukesh will serve as IGP, Armed Police. Surya Pratap Yadav takes over as Joint Commissioner (Traffic). Elsewhere, Syed Waquar Raza has been named Commissioner of Police, Siliguri, while Joy Biswas will head the Railways wing as IGP. Saumya Roy has been posted as Senior Superintendent of the Enforcement Branch. In several deputy commissioner rank postings in Kolkata Police, Ishani Paul will be DC south west division, Sayak Das the DC North, Praween Prakash DC central division, Shiba Prasad Patra DC, Bhangar division, K U Ganpat the DC, SSD, Y S Jagannathrao the DC, Detective Department, and Subimal Paul DC ESD, the notification said.
In district postings, Chandra Sekhar Bardham has been appointed Superintendent of Police (SP), Diamond Harbour Police District, while K Sunny Raj will take charge as SP, Purulia.
