Rebel TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Says Decided To Support NDA After BJP's Bengal Win: 'Accepted Mandate' Published By, Last Updated: June 08, 2026, 16:47 IST TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar says nearly 20 TMC MPs, including her, have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla declaring their decision to support the NDA TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar (File Image) As Trinamool Congress (TMC) continues to face growing turmoil within the party, senior party leader and MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on Monday claimed that nearly 20 party parliamentarians had decided to support the Democratic Alliance (NDA) and had formally communicated their decision to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Speaking to PTI, Ghosh Dastidar said a letter had already been submitted to the Speaker informing him of the group’s decision.
“Nearly 20 TMC MPs, including me, have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla about our decision to support the NDA," she said. ‘We Accepted People’s Verdict,’ Says Dastidar The TMC currently has 28 MPs in the Lok Sabha and 12 in the Rajya Sabha. Ghosh Dastidar asserted that she continues to serve as the party’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha and said the move followed consultations among several MPs. According to Dastidar, the decision to back the NDA reflected the political realities that emerged following the recent West Bengal Assembly elections, which delivered a crushing defeat to Mamata Banerjee-led party and a landslide victory to the BJP. “We have accepted the people’s verdict and believe that our future political course should be aligned with the NDA," she added.
TMC Crisis Deepens Amid Defections Her remarks come amid a deepening crisis within the party, which has witnessed a series of resignations, defections and public displays of dissent in the aftermath of its electoral defeat. Sources said the dissident TMC MPs met in New Delhi on Monday and sought to join the NDA. The reported breakaway faction is being led by Dastidar herself. The developments also coincided with TMC supremo Banerjee’s visit to the national capital for the INDIA bloc meeting. The TMC leadership has not issued an official response to Ghosh Dastidar’s claims yet.
