A major political crisis is unfolding within the Bengal ruling party as twenty members of parliament are rebelling against the top leadership. The rebel group is rejecting the authority of both the Bengal chief minister and the younger leader, opting instead to select a veteran female parliamentarian as their new leader. These parliamentarians claim to have secured the twenty signatures required to bypass anti-defection laws and are expected to submit a formal letter to the lower house speaker.
In addition to the parliamentary rebellion, sixty state assembly members are also forming a separate rebel faction. While the rebel parliamentarians have expressed a desire to align with a rival political alliance, it is noted that no official decision has been finalized. Meanwhile, leaders from the primary opposition party are closely monitoring the situation and holding strategic meetings in the national capital.
The developments indicate a significant loss of control by the Bengal chief minister over the ruling party.
