Marking World Brain Tumour Day, KIMS Hospital in Hyderabad has achieved a significant medical milestone by successfully completing over 10,000 brain tumour surgeries. To further enhance neurological care, the hospital unveiled a state-of-the-art robotic digital microscope designed to improve the detection and understanding of complex brain conditions. The advanced technology has significantly reduced surgical complications to as low as two to five percent.
Medical experts at the hospital highlighted that ten percent of these surgeries were performed on children, emphasising the critical need for early detection, which can sometimes eliminate the need for surgical intervention. While brain tumours lack specific precipitating factors like diet or stress, radiation exposure is a known risk, and cancers from other organs can spread to the brain. To combat the disease effectively, health professionals urge the inclusion of routine brain scans in annual health checkups provided by insurance companies and the government, as early-stage tumours often present no symptoms.
Persistent morning headaches accompanied by vomiting or vision issues should prompt immediate medical consultation.
