(Representative Image) A licensed revolver, a long-simmering domestic dispute, and a late-night argument turned fatal in Gurgaon’s Ashok Vihar Phase 3 on Saturday, when a private security officer allegedly shot his wife and 27-year-old son dead inside their three-storey home. Anil Tanwar (56) is in police custody. The victims — Asha Rani Tanwar (52), principal of Lord Shiva Public School in Carterpuri village, and her son Prashant (27), who helped run the school — were killed around 11pm after a quarrel on the third floor escalated beyond control.
The Times of India reported that police recovered 14 empty cartridges from the scene. Asha Rani was hit by four bullets; Prashant by seven. Both were rushed to hospital and declared brought dead. What Triggered The Shooting? The couple had been arguing when other family members — including their married daughter, who was visiting, and Prashant’s wife of 18 months — heard the commotion and rushed upstairs. According to the daughter’s complaint, she witnessed her father slap her mother before Prashant stepped in to intervene. Anil allegedly left the room, returned with his licensed revolver, and opened fire. How Did Neighbours And Police Respond? As the shots rang out, neighbours gathered outside and alerted police. Teams from Sector 5 police station reached the scene, with fingerprint experts called in to collect evidence.
Critically, the accused did not flee — he remained at home and was taken into custody. His revolver was seized on the spot. What Is Police Saying About The Motive? “Preliminary inquiries revealed that the family had been facing domestic disputes and differences for a considerable period. It is suspected these issues culminated in the fatal confrontation," police spokesperson Sandeep Turan was quoted by TOI. A neighbour corroborated that arguments were common in the Tanwar household. A murder case was registered at Sector 5 police station on the daughter’s complaint. Where Does The Case Stand Now? Anil was produced before a local court on Sunday and remanded in two days’ police custody for questioning. The bodies were sent to the mortuary, where a two-doctor board conducted autopsies on Sunday. Police said they are examining all aspects of the case.
