NEET-UG Retest Security Tightened: Paper Setters Placed Under Lockdown Until June 21 Exam Published By, Last Updated: June 08, 2026, 11:53 IST The NEET-UG retest is scheduled to be held on June 21 after the original examiniation was cancelled in the wake of the paper leak controversy. Rapid Read The NTA Director assured the committee that comprehensive safeguards and foolproof arrangements are now being implemented. NEET-UG Retest: The Ministry of Education and the Testing Agency (NTA) have implemented extensive security measures for the NEET-UG 2026 retest, including isolating all personnel involved in preparing the question paper at a secure undisclosed location until the retest examination concludes on June 21. The NEET-UG retest is scheduled to be held on June 21 from 2 pm to 5.15 pm across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, after the original examiniation was cancelled in the wake of the paper leak controversy.
As per media reports, individuals involved in setting, moderating and translating the question paper have been placed under strict communication restrictions. Mobile phones, laptops, smartwatches and other personal electronic devices have either been prohibited or tightly regulated, while internet access and contact with the outside world have been severely restricted. Authorities have also implemented round-the-clock monitoring at the secure facility, with entry limited to authorised personnel and all movements being documented. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has also instructed officials to fix all security weaknesses identified in the previous examination cycle and ensure a fair and secure re-exam. According to officials, enhanced security measures now cover every stage of the examination process, including question paper preparation, translation, moderation, printing, packaging, storage, transportation and distribution. The process has also been compartmentalised to ensure that no single individual or group has access to the entire operational chain.
The transportation of question papers has emerged as a key focus area, with authorities reportedly exploring the use of Indian Air Force aircraft for the secure movement of examination materials across the country. Through the use of advanced digital tracking systems, secure transportation methods, and zero-trust verification processes at every stage, the authority asserts that a sophisticated leak is structurally impossible under the existing administrative system. More than 22 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the retest. On May 12, the NTA cancelled the Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate), or NEET, held on May 3 for medical admissions amid allegations of paper leak.
