Traders body in Saharanpur, a major commercial hub in Uttar Pradesh have expressed concerns over the central government's decision to impose a 0.4 percent Merchant Discount Rate on person to merchant UPI transactions above 2000 rupees. Traders in the city say the move could add to the burden on small and medium-sized businesses and have called for a rollback of the move.
Industry stakeholders further say that charging merchants for UPI payments could undermine the government's push for a digital and a cashless economy.
