Trump Claims Iran Bleeding $400-500 Million Daily After US Imposed ‘Ultimate Blockade’ In Hormuz Published By, Last Updated: June 07, 2026, 19:52 IST President Donald Trump touts a US blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming it costs Iran billions in oil revenue as tensions and economic pressure escalate. US President Donald Trump (AFP) President Donald Trump said the US blockade on the Strait of Hormuz has resulted in Iran losing $400-500 million everyday. In an interview with NBC News’ “Meet The Press," Trump said: “We have a blockade. It’s been extremely effective — and the reason we have it is they tried to blockade and now we blockaded them.
They’re losing $4-500 million a day… We have the ultimate blockade." The standoff has evolved into a broader economic confrontation, with Iran restricting movement in the Strait of Hormuz and the US countering with its blockade. “We are inflicting a devastating blow to the Iranian regime’s ability to fund terrorism and regional destabilization," said Joel Valdez, acting Pentagon press secretary. “Our armed forces in the region will continue to maintain this unrelenting pressure," he added. Meanwhile, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Saturday that the US government would seek to channel Iranian assets toward rebuilding and repairs of future damage resulting from Iranian attacks.
In an interview cited by Wall Street Journal, Trump said it was unlikely, though still possible, that the US blockade of Iran could continue until Labour Day. The blockade, initiated on April 13 under President Donald Trump, is being positioned as Washington’s primary leverage in efforts to end the conflict. The US Department of Defense estimated that Iran has lost nearly $5 billion in oil revenue due to a US-led blockade in the Gulf of Oman, putting significant strain on Tehran’s finances as a peace deal remains elusive. Axios quoted Pentagon officials saying that over 40 vessels which were likely carrying oil or contraband have been diverted since the operation commenced.
