In a swift operation against narcotics, the police intercepted a suspect allegedly carrying six small packets of ganja at Penukonda railway station in Sri Sathya Sai district on Friday (September 11, 2026). The crackdown was part of the ongoing ‘EAGLE on Train’ drive, launched across train routes in Penukonda, Dharmavaram and Hindupur.
Speaking to the media here, Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar said that special police teams carried out intensive searches across several train compartments. Additional SP (Hindupur) K.V. Mahesh led the integrated search operation involving Railway Protection Force (RPF), Armed Reserve, civil police and a specialised sniffer dog unit.
The accused was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Penukonda for further prosecution. “Strict vigilance will continue across key transit routes to
dismantle drug smuggling operations. Coordinated drives will be intensified to ensure a drug-free society,” the SP said.
