A chilling murder mystery that stunned Delhi University has taken a dramatic turn with the arrest of a couple from West Bengal’s Bardhaman district in connection with the killing of assistant professor Dr Debosmita Paul. Delhi Police on Saturday said the accused — a man and his wife who were known to the victim — have been arrested after an interstate manhunt. Investigators believe a long-running property dispute may have been the trigger behind the brutal crime. DU Professor Found Dead In Her Apartment The 42-year-old academic, who taught at Delhi University, was found dead in her apartment in Vasundhara Enclave in east Delhi on Thursday.
Her death initially sent shockwaves through the academic community, with colleagues and students demanding swift action and answers. As police began piecing together the final hours before her death, suspicion quickly fell on individuals known to the professor. Child Left Outside Before Murder, Say Police According to investigators, the accused couple travelled from West Bengal to Delhi and visited Paul’s residence on the day of the crime. In a disturbing detail that has emerged during the probe, the couple allegedly brought a child with them and left the child outside the apartment before entering the flat. Police suspect that once inside, the duo attacked the professor, resulting in her death. The exact sequence of events and the nature of the assault are still being investigated. Forensic evidence and witness statements are being examined to establish the timeline of the crime. Property Dispute Emerges As Key Motive According to the reports, police said that the murder may be linked to a property dispute involving a piece of land or property owned by the professor’s maternal grandfather in West Bengal.
