Ebola Alert: 3 Returnees From Africa Quarantined In Chhattisgarh, Cases In Hyderabad, Jaipur Test Negative Curated By Last Updated: June 07, 2026, 14:31 IST India steps up Ebola surveillance as travellers from African nations are quarantined in Durg, Hyderabad and Jaipur, all suspected cases test negative. Three people have been placed in isolation over suspected Ebola infection. (PTI/Representational) Health authorities across India have intensified surveillance after several travellers arriving from Ebola-affected African countries were isolated and tested for the deadly virus. Officials, however, have confirmed that all recent suspected cases have tested negative, easing concerns of a potential outbreak. The developments come amid growing global vigilance over the spread of Ebola in parts of Africa, prompting Indian health authorities to closely monitor international arrivals from affected regions. Three Returnees Quarantined in Chhattisgarh In Chhattisgarh’s Durg district, three individuals who recently returned from Ebola-affected African nations were placed under quarantine as a precautionary measure.
State Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said the returnees were being closely monitored by health officials after arriving in India from countries experiencing Ebola outbreaks. Samples were collected and sent for testing while authorities tracked their health condition and contacts. Officials stressed that the quarantine was a preventive measure and that no confirmed Ebola cases had been detected in the state. Sudanese in Hyderabad Tests Negative In Hyderabad, a Sudanese national admitted to a private hospital with symptoms that raised concerns about possible Ebola infection also tested negative for the virus. The patient had been isolated and subjected to medical screening following standard public health protocols. Health authorities later confirmed that laboratory tests ruled out Ebola infection. The case came shortly after another Sudanese national in Hyderabad had similarly tested negative, prompting officials to reassure the public that no Ebola cases had been detected in the city.
Ugandan Woman’s Test Report Negative in Jaipur Meanwhile, in Rajasthan’s Jaipur, a woman from Uganda who was admitted to hospital with symptoms that triggered Ebola-related concerns also tested negative. According to health officials, her samples were sent to a specialised laboratory in Pune for analysis. The test results subsequently confirmed the absence of Ebola infection. The woman remains under medical observation, but authorities said there is currently no indication that she is infected with the virus. Authorities Urge Vigilance, Not Panic The recent cases have highlighted India’s preparedness to respond to potential Ebola threats amid international outbreaks. Health departments across multiple states have strengthened screening protocols at airports and hospitals, particularly for travellers arriving from countries reporting Ebola cases. Officials have urged the public not to panic, noting that all suspected cases reported so far have returned negative test results. Ebola is a severe viral disease that spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals and can cause symptoms such as fever, fatigue, vomiting, diarrhoea and, in severe cases, internal and external bleeding.
