(Image: X/@AmitShah) The Centre has summoned West Bengal’s top bureaucratic and police officials to New Delhi for a high-level review of infiltration and border security issues ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposed visit to the state later this week. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan will chair the meeting on June 9, where West Bengal Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar are expected to participate. According to sources, the discussions will focus on infiltration concerns, border fencing projects and measures to strengthen security in districts located along the international border.
The meeting assumes significance as it comes just days before Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to West Bengal on June 13 and 14, during which he is expected to review multiple issues related to law and order, border management and development in North Bengal. 31 Acres Land Given To BSF For Fencing At India-Bangladesh Border The West Bengal government has cleared the transfer of nearly 32 acres of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) to facilitate fencing along the India-Bangladesh border, reviving a process that had remained stalled for years. Addressing reporters after a cabinet meeting, Panchayat Minister Dilip Ghosh said the decision follows a commitment made during the new government’s first cabinet meeting to expedite land transfers required for strengthening border infrastructure. According to Ghosh, the state has approved the handover of 31.905 acres spread across nine locations along the international border with Bangladesh to support fencing projects undertaken by the BSF.
The cabinet has also approved additional land transfers for the establishment of permanent border outposts. Under the proposal, around 1.53 acres of land in Malda, Murshidabad and Cooch Behar districts will be allotted for setting up three BSF border outposts. In a separate move aimed at accelerating fencing work, the government has approved the transfer of 12.72 acres at 11 locations in Uttar Dinajpur district. Officials said the land will be used for completing stretches of border fencing considered crucial for surveillance and border management. The decisions are part of a broader effort to strengthen security infrastructure along the India-Bangladesh border and improve operational capabilities of the BSF in border districts.
