Domestic cooking gas prices have been increased by 29 rupees per cylinder, marking the second hike in three months amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi now stands at 942 rupees. This follows a 60-rupee hike earlier in March, bringing the total increase to 89 rupees. The government has defended the price revision, stating that the actual supply cost of a cylinder is 1,600 rupees and oil marketing companies are still incurring a loss of 600 to 700 rupees per cylinder.
The Centre also emphasized that India's LPG prices remain cheaper compared to countries like the United States, Australia, and Canada, and confirmed that the 300-rupee Ujjwala subsidy will continue. Meanwhile, the Congress party has targeted the central government over the rising inflation and fuel prices, labeling the Prime Minister as 'inflation man'. The price hike adds to the financial burden on citizens, as petrol, diesel, and CNG rates have also seen recent increases.
