A senior Lebanese army officer has been killed in an Israeli strike in south Lebanon, in an incident described by the Lebanese presidency as a “blatant violation” of sovereignty. Brigadier General Wissam Sabra, along with a captain and a private, was killed while on a military tour in the south, according to Lebanese officials.

President Joseph Aoun warned the attack threatens stability, even as ceasefire discussions continue to develop but remain unimplemented on the ground. Hezbollah officials also condemned the killings and rejected claims that Lebanon is being used as a bargaining chip in wider regional negotiations.

The incident comes amid continued cross-border hostilities and growing uncertainty over the durability of diplomatic efforts to halt the conflict. Al Jazeera's Ali Hashem, reports
