(Representative image) A man allegedly brutally assaulted a 17-year-old girl with an axe, dragged her by her hair, and attempted to hang her from her roof in broad daylight in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district. The accused, identified as Dharmendra Parihar, is reportedly a jilted lover. On Friday, he forcefully entered the girl's home when she was alone and struck her nearly 20 times on the face and head with an axe, according to a report by NDTV.
He then dragged her by the hair to the roof of the house, tied a rope around her neck and attempted to hang her. A video of the incident has surfaced on social media. It shows the man trying to hang the girl from the roof, while she was still alive. The rope, however, slipped from his hands and she fell to the ground. He then jumped down to approach her body.
Hearing the girl scream, neighbours rushed to her house and found her critically injured but alive. She was rushed to the hospital where her condition deteriorated, but she is undergoing treatment, NDTV reported. Parihar was overpowered by the villagers and later arrested by the police. A case has been registered under charges, including attempted murder and other serious offences. According to the victim’s family, this was not an isolated incident.
Relatives alleged that Parihar had been systematically stalking and troubling the teenager, noting that he had molested and harassed her just weeks prior. Despite these previous encounters, the harassment persisted, culminating in Friday’s near-fatal assault, according to a News18 report.
