India strongly criticised Pakistan at the UN General Assembly, rejecting its references to Jammu and Kashmir and reiterating that the Union Territory remains an integral and inalienable part of India. India slams Pakistan at UNGA over Kashmir references, rejects claims as âbaselessâ India slams Pakistan at UNGA over âunwarranted referencesâ to Jammu and Kashmir India on Saturday strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for making âunwarranted referencesâ to Jammu and Kashmir, accusing Islamabad of repeatedly misusing UN platforms to advance its political narrative. Addressing the UNGA plenary session on the Annual Report of the UN Security Council, Indiaâs Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, objected to Pakistanâs remarks and reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internal matter of India.
âThe unwarranted reference by Pakistan to a matter strictly internal to India, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, has compelled me to respond,â Harish said. He further accused Pakistan of using international forums to push âdivisive political interestsâ and spreading misleading communications during its tenure on the Security Council. âPakistan has decided not to spare this forum either from their characteristic misuse of august UN platforms for their divisive political interests. Iâd like to remind Pakistan that being a member of the UN Security Council is a huge responsibility. Itâs not a forum for peddling biased and false narratives,â he said.
Reiterating Indiaâs position, Harish said Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and rejected any contrary claims. âJammu and Kashmir was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. Any assertions to the contrary are baseless, devoid of and inconsistent with historical facts,â he said, adding that âempty rhetoric and hollow claims by Pakistan would not change this fundamental reality.â India also used the platform to reiterate its long-standing demand for reforms in the UN Security Council, calling for a more representative structure reflecting current global realities.
âRetaining the status quo has so far not enabled effective functioning of the Security Council and cannot do so in future,â Harish said, while supporting expansion in both permanent and non-permanent membership. The remarks were delivered during a UNGA session reviewing the Security Councilâs annual report, where India also congratulated newly elected member states for the 2027â28 term.
