Ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been rested and will not be a part of the Indian squad for the England T20 2026 series, which runs from July 1 to 11. The BCCI, on Saturday, announced the Indian cricket team for the five-match T20I series. Bumrah, however, has been named for India’s subsequent T20 engagement for the Asian Games 2026 in Japan in September-October. Bumrah's absence from the England T20Is and the preceding two-match series against Ireland is likely part of his workload-management strategy - a norm for the 32-year-old given the physical demands of his unique action and injury history.
In Bumrah’s absence, Arshdeep Singh and returning Harshit Rana, back after missing the T20 World Cup 2026 and the IPL due to a knee injury, could shoulder the fast-bowling responsibilities in swing-friendly English conditions. Prince Yadav, who impressed with 16 wickets for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026, will also bolster head coach Gautam Gambhir’s options in the pace department alongside veteran Mohammed Siraj. Siraj was out of the Indian T20 setup since 2024 before earning a call-up for the T20 World Cup 2026 as Harshit Rana’s replacement. He played one match in the tournament, picking up three wickets, and has been retained.
Both Prince and Siraj, however, will drop out of the squad for the Asian Games in Japan in September-October, making way for Jasprit Bumrah. As part of the tour, India will play five T20I matches against England. The Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street will be the venue for the opener on July 1 before the second match in Old Trafford, Manchester, on July 4. Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton will host the final three T20Is on July 7, 9 and 11. The matches will be followed by three ODIs, the squad for which will be announced later. Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will also be part of the Indian T20 team in England.
New Indian T20 captain Shreyas Iyer will lead the side in England with Tilak Varma as his deputy. The 16 players chosen for the England T20Is will also feature against Ireland in June.
